~Hormone Imbalance Syndrome & Allergic Rhinitis Treatment~ by Dr. Tano

Hormone Imbalance Syndrome

Hormone Imbalance Syndrome (HIS): America’s Silent Plague-Uncovering the Roots of the Obesity Epidemic and Most Common Diseases by Benoît Tano, M.D., uses the CDC obesity maps, the US Geological Survey pesticides/herbicides maps, and Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) hospital and Emergency Department (ED) discharges data, to explore the origins of the growing obesity epidemic in the US. Find out how pesticides/herbicides sprayed in farmlands and common household chemicals cause endocrine disruption (hormone imbalance) that leads to obesity and its comorbidities.

Obesity is the number one killer in the United States and, increasingly, the world. It kills in silence and indirectly, standing as the root cause of a great many of the diseases treated by healthcare providers, including hyperlipidemia, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and malignant tumors, to name only a few. If any other epidemic had caused as many deaths as obesity and its comorbidities, the whole world would be diligently searching for a cure. Yet most healthcare providers take a surprisingly casual attitude toward obesity. In most cases, it is treated as a more or less benign condition easily dealt with if patients would only put forth some effort. This is to say that obesity is often treated as if it were the patient’s fault, with healthcare providers frequently assuming that a patient’s obesity is the result of poor dietary choices and sedentary lifestyle. The root cause of the obesity epidemic is neither explored nor serious weight loss treatment plans offered.

•The Obesity Equation and its determinants
•The connection between pesticides, common household chemicals and what I call hormone imbalance syndrome (high estrogen, low thyroid function, low male hormones such as testosterone)
•Hormone imbalance syndrome impact on obesity and its comorbidities
•Why the South and the Midwest of the United States have more obesity than other regions
•Hormone Imbalance syndrome and the allergy epidemic
•Steps for effective weight loss
•Optimal food choice for weight loss
•Role of nutritional supplements in weight loss

Allergic Rhinitis Treatment

In Allergic Rhinitis Treatment Secrets Your Doctor May Not Tell You by Benoit D. Tano, M.D., understanding the mechanisms behind rhinitis and using an optimal combination of medications, are necessary for effective treatment of these nasal symptoms that are not benign. Untreated or poorly treated allergic and non-allergic rhinitis can lead to chronic and recurrent sinus infections, sinus pressure, and headaches, and even to asthma symptoms of chest tightness, shortness of breath, coughing, and wheezing. Postnasal drip, one of the most annoying, difficult-to-treat, and lingering rhinitis symptoms, may also show up with poorly treated rhinitis.

The bulk of allergic rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal membranes due to pollens, dust, dust mites, molds, animal dander, etc.), non-allergic rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal membranes due to chemicals: household cleaning agents, cigarette smoke, perfumes, flower scents, scented candles, air fresheners, petrochemicals, fumes, pesticides, etc.), allergic conjunctivitis (inflammation of the eyes causing itchy, watery, puffy, swollen, red eyes), and sinusitis (acute and chronic sinus infections) cases are treated by primary care health care providers.

Many patients also self-treat, and the multiple over-the-counter (OTC) antihistamines available to the public attest to that. However, many health care providers do not have a deep understanding of the pathophysiology of rhinitis symptoms. Also, many individuals who self-medicate tend to use the weakest medications, and often the more dangerous medications that lead to rhinitis medicamentosa (rebound nasal congestion), and even hypertension.

•The pathophysiology of Allergic Rhinitis (mechanism behind allergic reactions)
•The role of white blood cells involved in allergic reactions
•The role of IgE (smart bomb for allergens) in allergic reactions
•The role of Mast cells (misery cell #1) and Basophils (misery cell #2) in allergic reactions
•The mediators involved in allergic reactions (histamine, leukotriene, prostaglandins…)
•The medications used to block these mediators and Over-the-Counter alternatives
•The chemical sensitivity component of rhinitis symptoms
•The role of the allergist: Skin testing and allergy vaccine
•The role of estrogens in Adult-onset Allergies
•The medication treatment secrets and techniques that work

About the Author

Dr. Tano is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, 2002, and by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology, 2006. He is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences, and holds a full-time position as allergist & clinical immunologist with The Allergy Associates of La Crosse (AAOL) in Wisconsin.

Dr. Tano grew up in Côte d’Ivoire. After obtaining his BS degree in economics with honors there in 1980, he received a national merit scholarship for graduate studies in the US. He obtained his Ph.D. in economics at the State University of New York at Albany in 1988 and taught economics at the University of Toledo in Ohio for seven years.

Dr. Tano has always had a love for medicine and while teaching, he obtained a BS degree in Biology and eventually entered medical school at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. Medical school was followed by internal medicine residency at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.

After his internal medicine residency, he sought to combine his economics and medicine. He therefore engaged in a two-year Pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research fellowship sponsored by the Ohio State University Medical Center and GlaxoSmithKline that helped bridge his economics and medicine backgrounds. During his research fellowship, he spent a year at the GlaxoSmithKline headquarters in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, and worked with the Respiratory Global Health Outcomes group.

After his research fellowship, he entered the Johns Hopkins Asthma and Allergy Center in Baltimore, Maryland for another fellowship in allergy and clinical immunology. Upon completion of his clinical fellowship at John Hopkins, Dr. Tano joined the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Tyler (UTHSCT).

While at UTHSCT, he attended a conference and had an accidental exposure to Hormone Imbalance and its impact on diseases treated by all physicians. Dr. Tano has since dedicated countless hours exploring the mechanisms behind what he now calls the Hormone Imbalance Syndrome (HIS). While digging into the hormone imbalance question, he discovered that the growing obesity epidemic in the US and the rest of the world may be consequent to hormone imbalance syndrome which in turn has its origin in endocrine disrupting chemicals. His research has led to his book, “Hormone Imbalance Syndrome: America’s Silent Plague – Uncovering the Roots of the Obesity Epidemic and Common Diseases” published in January 2012. This book uses medical geography techniques and statistics to correlate the growing obesity epidemic to common household chemicals and to pesticides and herbicides sprayed in farmlands across America. He is also currently working on “The Allergy Detective Series” to uncover the roots of the growing allergy epidemic in the US. His first book in this series, “Allergic Rhinitis Treatment Secrets your Doctor May not Tell you” was published in December 2011.

Since his clinical debut as an Associate Professor of Medicine at UTHSCT, he has transitioned through military medicine by serving as a physician at Fort Belvoir in Virginia. The outstanding care provided by Dr. Tano to his patients did not go unnoticed by active duty military personnel and their families. Dr. Tano received one of the ACE of Excellence recognition at Fort Belvoir in July 2009.

Dr. Tano’s motto is: “health is the wealth of nations and caring for one another is what matters”. Following this philosophy, Dr. Tano has gone back to Africa several times to understand the plight of African people, and in 2008, he organized a medical mission in Côte d’Ivoire where he and local physicians cared for villagers. Dr. Tano is also sharing his Hormone Imbalance Syndrome message in Africa, and has appeared on national public television, radio and other news media in Côte d’Ivoire.

As an economist and a physician, Dr. Tano has also assessed Africa’s needs today and has discovered that health, education, and economic development through technology are inextricably tangled. He has therefore founded the non-for-profit organization: CHEETAA, Inc. (Council of Health, Education, Economics and Technology Advisers for Africa) to address these issues.

Dr. Tano’s work has been published in numerous peer review research journals in Economics as well as in Medicine, and he has also presented his research at various professional national and international conferences. He is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, and The Academy of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine. He is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and several African Languages.
